President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conveyed his sincere condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India, and the Indian people following the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171.

The President’s message of sympathy was made public through an official statement issued on Friday, June 13, expressing Nigeria’s solidarity with India during this time of national mourning.

The devastating incident occurred when the London-bound aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, claiming the lives of over 200 individuals in one of the deadliest air disasters in recent Indian aviation history.

Amid the sorrow, a remarkable story of survival emerged. British citizen Vishwashkumar Ramesh was found alive, having miraculously escaped the wreckage of the ill-fated flight.

President Tinubu said, “I extend my heartfelt condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government, and the people of the Republic of India following the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 near Ahmedabad.

“The tragedy of Air India reminds us, once again, of the fragility of life and the common bond of humanity that holds us together.

“At this moment of sorrow and pain, Nigeria stands in solidarity with our friend, brother and partner, Narendra Modi @narendramodi, and the people of India. Nigeria also deeply sympathises with the families and friends of other victims on board the aircraft.

“May the Almighty receive the souls of the departed and comfort their families.”
