Coach John Obuh Receives Champion of Democracy Award

Chairman of Abia Warriors Football Club, with the prestigious “Champion of Democracy” award for his significant contributions to democracy and human capital development in Abia State and Nigeria.

Obuh, a former Nigeria national Under-17 and Under-20 head coach and the first Abia-born coach to win a continental tournament. The event included a discussion on Obuh’s achievements, led by the station’s presenter, Monday Ogbonyemi, alongside Abia Warriors’ Media Director, Igwe Solomon, and Head of Administration, Igwe Onuoha. The highlight was the presentation of the award to Obuh, received on his behalf by Solomon.

Obuh’s recognition follows his remarkable tenure at Abia Warriors. In his first season as chairman, the club reached the 2024 President Federation Cup final, a historic milestone. In his second season, Abia Warriors secured a berth in the CAF Confederation Cup, another first for the club, stunning Nigeria’s football community.

Additionally, Obuh bolstered the club’s transportation department by acquiring a new coaster bus, marking the first time Abia Warriors purchased a bus without state government assistance.

Expressing gratitude, Obuh said, “I am humbled by this prestigious award, which recognizes my contributions to youth development, football, and humanity. This is a testament to the hard work and passion of our team.” He thanked the award organizers, the Abia Warriors board, management, players, and technical crew for their dedication.

Obuh also praised Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, for his unwavering support. “Whenever we call on the Governor, he responds positively. His support has transformed Abia Warriors, and we are motivated to work harder to reciprocate his benevolence,” Obuh stated.

He assured the governor that Abia Warriors would represent Abia State and Nigeria proudly in the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.
