FIFA has announced the formation of its Technical Study Group (TSG) tasked with delivering in-depth, cutting-edge analysis of all matches at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™.
Led by FIFA Chief of Global Football Development Arsène Wenger, the group aims to enhance global understanding of football through tactical insights and data-driven observations.
The TSG comprises an elite panel of former players and national-team coaches, including Esteban Cambiasso (Argentina), Aliou Cissé (Senegal), Tobin Heath (USA), Jürgen Klinsmann (Germany), Roberto Martínez (Spain), Gilberto Silva (Brazil), and TSG lead Pascal Zuberbühler (Switzerland). Their collective expertise will focus on identifying tactical trends, innovations, and key elements shaping the game’s evolution.
The group’s primary role is to observe matches, analyze on-pitch action, and provide detailed reports using data from FIFA’s Football Performance Insights team. These findings will be published on the FIFA Training Centre, offering free access to coaches, players, and fans worldwide. Additionally, the TSG will select individual award winners and the team receiving the fair play prize at the tournament.
Beyond match analysis, the TSG will explore long-term trends and their implications for coach education and talent development. Questions such as “How is football evolving?” and “What are the key tactical elements?” will guide their work. By combining statistical metrics with expert observations, the group aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of team and opponent strategies.
“We’ve assembled a diverse group of experts with vast experience,” said Wenger. “Our goal is to analyze and interpret on-pitch events to inspire both technical experts and football fans. We’re collecting more data than ever before, striking a balance between expertise and analytics to deliver real-time insights during the tournament.”
The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 promises to be a landmark event, and the TSG’s work will play a pivotal role in shaping the global football narrative.
