Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Bauchi State and Nigerians across the country in celebration of this year’s Democracy Day, observed on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
In a message conveyed through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mukhtar Gidado, the Governor reflected on the significance of the day and the values it embodies for the nation.
Marking 26 years of uninterrupted democratic rule, Governor Mohammed joined millions of Nigerians in commemorating the nation’s hard-earned journey from military dictatorship to constitutional governance.
He emphasized that this national milestone is a testament to the collective will of the Nigerian people to safeguard liberty, uphold justice, and demand accountability from those in power.
The Governor paid glowing tribute to the heroes of Nigeria’s democracy—those who resisted authoritarianism and, in many cases, laid down their lives in the struggle for freedom and civil governance.
According to him, Democracy Day provides not only an opportunity to celebrate but also a moment to reflect on the sacrifices that paved the way for the country’s democratic evolution.
While acknowledging the contributions of past and present leaders, civil society groups, and everyday citizens in shaping Nigeria’s democratic landscape, Governor Mohammed reiterated that democracy must go beyond electoral rituals. He asserted that real democracy must be visible in the quality of governance, social justice, and the well-being of the people.
Citing notable developmental achievements in Bauchi State, Governor Mohammed affirmed that his administration remains committed to translating democratic ideals into real-life progress.
He noted improvements across key sectors including healthcare, education, infrastructure, and economic empowerment as evidence of what focused, inclusive, and transparent governance can deliver.
The Governor underscored his administration’s firm dedication to promoting good governance, ensuring accountability, and protecting the rights and welfare of every resident. He maintained that such principles are the cornerstone of a functional democracy, and must be nurtured continually by both leaders and citizens.
As the state joins the rest of the federation in observing this national holiday, Governor Mohammed urged Nigerians to deepen their commitment to unity, peace, and the shared vision of a prosperous and equitable society.
He encouraged the people of Bauchi to reflect on the democratic gains so far and to remain resolute in their support for initiatives that promote inclusive development and strengthen civic institutions.
Concluding his Democracy message, the Governor called for renewed patriotism and cooperation among all stakeholders, emphasizing that the journey toward a truly just and thriving Nigeria requires collective effort, unwavering commitment, and a shared belief in the power of democracy to transform lives.
