Former NBA and D’Tigers star Al-Farouq Aminu is bringing his passion for basketball and youth development back to Nigeria with another edition of the A.W.G.F Elite Basketball Camp in Ibadan.

Organized by the Aminu Goodwork Foundation, the three-day event, running from June 13 to 15 at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Oyo State, aims to scout and nurture the country’s next generation of basketball talent. Daily sessions will begin at 9:00 a.m., offering young athletes a transformative opportunity to showcase their skills and learn from seasoned professionals.

Aminu, who has played for NBA teams like the Portland Trail Blazers and represented Nigeria internationally, is driven by a mission to discover raw talent while protecting young players from the pitfalls of the sports industry.

“I’m looking for the next chief, the next Giannis,” Aminu said, referencing NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, whose Nigerian heritage has inspired many. “Too many young players fall prey to fake agents who exploit their dreams and derail their careers before they even begin. This camp is about giving these kids the tools, guidance, and mentorship to achieve their potential safely.”

The camp is open to both boys and girls, offering professional coaching, skill-building workshops, and personalized mentorship. Participants will gain exposure to high-level training techniques and insights into the discipline required to succeed in competitive basketball. Aminu’s initiative also emphasizes character development, aiming to instill values that will serve young athletes both on and off the court.

The A.W.G.F Elite Basketball Camp marks a significant step in Aminu’s ongoing commitment to uplifting Nigerian youth through sports. By fostering a safe and supportive environment, the camp seeks to empower the next wave of Nigerian basketball stars to chase their dreams with confidence and clarity.
