The Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Engr. ‘Seyi Makinde, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of one of Ibadan’s distinguished sons and esteemed businessman, Alhaji Lamidi Ajadi.
The prominent businessman and patriarch, Alhaji Lamidi Ajadi, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at his residence in Ibadan, having lived to a distinguished old age, according to a family source.
Alhaji Ajadi was the founder of Lamidi Ajadi & Sons Nigeria Limited, a company he established in 1952 while still quite young. His entrepreneurial legacy remains a testament to his vision and dedication.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Governor Makinde described the late Ajadi as a quintessential Ibadan indigene whose life and legacy were defined by his unwavering dedication to the progress and prosperity of both Ibadanland and Oyo State at large.
Governor Makinde stated that he received the news of Alhaji Ajadi’s death with great shock and sadness, noting that the late businessman was a key figure in the socio-economic development of the region.
According to the governor, Pa Ajadi’s contributions spanned various facets of communal and economic life, and his loss is deeply felt across the state.
“Alhaji Lamidi Ajadi was a remarkable individual whose impact on the development of Ibadan and Oyo State cannot be overstated. His commitment to uplifting his community and supporting meaningful initiatives earned him respect and admiration far and wide,” the governor said.
He further extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Muslim ummah in Ibadanland, and the entire people of Oyo State, urging them to take solace in the remarkable legacy Alhaji Ajadi left behind.
“On behalf of the government and the good people of Oyo State, I offer my sincere sympathies to the immediate family of Alhaji Ajadi, as well as to the Muslim community in Ibadanland and beyond,” the governor said. “I pray that the Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him eternal rest in Aljanah Firdausi.”
Governor Makinde also prayed for strength and comfort for the family and loved ones of the deceased as they navigate this period of grief, urging them to find peace in the knowledge that Alhaji Ajadi lived a life of impact and service.
