The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr. Ikioye Orutugu, has taken decisive action against police misconduct by ordering the detention of three Inspectors of the Nigeria Police Force. The officers in question are facing serious allegations of corruption and abuse of office.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Anambra State Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident occurred on Wednesday during a routine security patrol. The three officers reportedly intercepted a resident, conducted an unauthorized search of his mobile phone, and subsequently extorted money from him.
Reacting to the incident, Commissioner Orutugu expressed strong disapproval of the officers’ actions, describing their behavior as a violation of the ethical and professional standards expected of members of the police force. He emphasized that such conduct undermines public trust and damages the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.
In response, CP Orutugu has directed the immediate commencement of internal disciplinary procedures in accordance with the regulations guiding the conduct of police personnel.
He stated that the disciplinary process would be thorough and transparent, ensuring that justice is served and that appropriate sanctions are imposed if the officers are found guilty.
Furthermore, the Commissioner reiterated the core values of the Nigeria Police Force, describing it as a disciplined, transparent, responsible, responsive, and accountable institution. He assured the public that the Force remains committed to upholding justice and protecting the rights and dignity of all citizens.
