On Tuesday, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, officially announced the renaming of the Abuja International Conference Centre (AICC) in honour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The announcement was made during the formal commissioning of the newly renovated facility by President Tinubu himself in Abuja. Wike described the edifice as a world-class conference centre that stands as a testament to modern infrastructure and architectural excellence.

In his address, Wike stated that, with the approval of the President, the facility would henceforth be known as the “Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.” He emphasized the importance of proper and consistent maintenance to preserve the high standards of the structure.

The FCT Minister also made it clear that, under the new arrangement, every user of the facility would be required to pay usage fees, regardless of their status or position.

He noted that this decision was taken with the full consent of the President, and it aligns with the broader vision to ensure sustainability and efficient management of public infrastructure.

According to Wike, such reforms are necessary to protect the integrity of the facility and prevent it from falling into disrepair. He maintained that public buildings of this magnitude should not be overused or undervalued simply because of their government ownership.

The event marked not only the reopening of a major national landmark but also a shift in how federal assets in the capital are to be managed under the Tinubu administration.
