In a landmark achievement for Nigerian military sports, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has approved the recommendation of Lieutenant Colonel Okou Femedein Timipre to join the esteemed Sports Science Commission of the International Military Sports Council (CISM).
This appointment marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s growing influence in global sports administration and underlines the nation’s commitment to advancing military sports on an international stage.
Lieutenant Colonel Okou, a distinguished international wrestling referee, was recommended by CISM’s executive board for his expertise and contributions to military sports. His elevation to the Sports Science Commission positions him among global experts tasked with advancing sports science and facilitating the transfer of scientific knowledge across CISM’s member nations.
The commission focuses on critical areas such as fitness and performance in military sports and psychophysiological military fitness, ensuring operational readiness for armed forces worldwide.
Okou’s appointment reflects his rising prominence in international sports circles. Having previously served as the African representative on CISM’s Wrestling Committee, he brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His work will emphasize promoting sports within armed forces, particularly in Africa, while fostering collaboration on fitness and performance initiatives globally.
Expressing profound gratitude, Lieutenant Colonel Okou credited General Musa for the opportunity to serve in this prestigious capacity. “Without the Chief of Defence Staff’s approval and the platforms provided, I would not have been recognized by CISM,” he said. He also thanked the CISM board for deeming him suitable for the role and vowed to execute his duties with diligence to elevate military sports worldwide.
Okou extended appreciation to his superiors and colleagues in the Nigerian military and beyond, acknowledging their support in achieving this feat.
His appointment is a proud moment for Nigeria, as the nation continues to cement its reputation in global sports administration.
