The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Command, has issued a strong warning to the general public regarding a fake recruitment scam currently circulating on social media platforms.

The command emphasized that no official recruitment exercise is ongoing at this time, urging Nigerians to be cautious and not fall victim to fraudsters.

This warning was made public on Tuesday through a statement issued in Abeokuta by the command’s spokesperson, Mr. Dyke Ogbonnaya.

According to Ogbonnaya, certain fraudulent individuals and criminal syndicates have been impersonating senior NSCDC officers, using their photographs and reputations to deceive unsuspecting members of the public. These scammers reportedly claim to offer recruitment slots into the Corps in exchange for money.

“We have received reports of a well-coordinated scam on social media, where a group of fraudsters is exploiting the name, image, and goodwill of a senior officer in the Corps,” Ogbonnaya stated. “Their aim is to mislead and defraud innocent individuals and groups by falsely promising job opportunities.”

Ogbonnaya categorically dismissed the scam, reiterating that any legitimate recruitment into the NSCDC will be widely announced through official channels, including reputable media outlets, the Corps’ official website, and government platforms.

He advised the public to remain alert, exercise caution, and refrain from engaging with suspicious individuals or recruitment offers online. “The NSCDC is urging the public to completely disregard and stay away from such fraudulent messages or claims. They are entirely false and meant to deceive,” he said.

The Corps also clarified that neither the senior officer whose identity is being misused nor the institution itself has any connection to the fake recruitment offer. “We dissociate ourselves and the officer from this scam. Those behind this criminal activity must cease and desist immediately,” he added.

Ogbonnaya further assured the public that the NSCDC’s intelligence and surveillance teams are actively investigating the syndicate, and efforts are being intensified to track down and prosecute those responsible for the scam.

He concluded by encouraging the public to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities and to remain vigilant. “Until an official recruitment process is declared, let us all stay safe and avoid falling prey to these scammers,” he emphasized.
