Tragedy has struck the political landscape of Katsina State as the newly elected Chairman of Bakori Local Government Area, Hon. Aminu Dan Hamidu, has passed away just two months into his tenure.
The late chairman officially assumed office in April 2025, following his victory in the February local government elections. He died on Monday, June 9, 2025.
Though no official cause of death has been confirmed, emerging reports suggest that Hon. Hamidu had been battling an undisclosed illness for some time prior to his demise.
The confirmation of his passing was made by Kaula Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, in an official statement released on behalf of the state government.
In a heartfelt tribute, Governor Radda expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Hamidu as a man of integrity, a loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and a dedicated public servant. “Today, Katsina has lost one of its most committed and selfless sons,” the governor stated. “Hon. Hamidu was a quiet achiever who upheld the values of integrity, transparency, and people-first leadership.”
Despite his short stint in office, Governor Radda emphasized that Hamidu left behind a lasting legacy characterized by purposeful leadership and unwavering commitment to community development. He commended the late chairman’s ability to lead with humility and serve the people sincerely, even within the brief period he held the position.
“Hamidu was not someone who sought the spotlight,” the governor continued. “He let his actions speak for him. Even in a short time, he demonstrated what leadership truly means when it is rooted in sincerity and service.”
The governor also highlighted Hamidu’s distinguished career in public service, recalling how his roles at various levels of government were marked by diligence, responsibility, and a strong sense of duty to his constituents.
On behalf of the government and the people of Katsina State, Governor Radda extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the community of Bakori, and members of the APC throughout the state. He offered prayers for the deceased, saying, “May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdausi.”
Governor Radda assured that Hon. Hamidu’s memory would be preserved and honored, praising his modesty, patriotism, and deep love for the people he served.
