Over 1,230 Political Returnees Rejoin NNPP Under Kwankwaso’s Leadership, Boosting Party Strength Ahead of 2027 Elections
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and former Governor of Kano State, has welcomed a significant political development as over 1,230 former supporters of Hon. Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila officially returned to the party, reaffirming their allegiance to his leadership.
The defectors, who previously aligned with the Waraka political group, hail predominantly from Albasu and Sumaila Local Government Areas, both located in the Kano South Senatorial District. Additional groups of returnees were also recorded from Bunkure and Tofa Local Government Areas, expanding the impact of this political shift.
The formal rejoining of these members was celebrated during a political event held on Sunday at Kwankwaso’s residence on Miller Road. The gathering attracted prominent stakeholders from the NNPP, respected community leaders, and a large number of enthusiastic party loyalists, all united in welcoming the returnees back into the fold.
Senator Kwankwaso, while addressing the crowd, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the return of his former allies. He emphasized that their decision to rejoin the NNPP symbolized a renewed commitment to ideology-based politics, a principle he has consistently championed throughout his political career.
“I am always happy to welcome individuals who align with our vision—not for monetary gain, but for the greater good of Nigeria,” Kwankwaso remarked. “This is a movement grounded in principles, not driven by the politics of the highest bidder.”
Speaking further, he underscored the NNPP’s unique position in the political landscape, noting its dedication to issue-driven governance and its focus on national progress rather than opportunistic gains.
Representing the returnees, Jamilu Zamba and Maryam Romo both reaffirmed their loyalty to the party and praised Kwankwaso’s distinguished leadership. Zamba highlighted the qualities that inspired their return, stating:
“We have come to realize that this is where our political future truly lies. Senator Kwankwaso has always been a man of integrity and a champion of grassroots development. He doesn’t play money politics—he plays politics that empower communities.”
Romo echoed this sentiment, citing Kwankwaso’s unwavering dedication to the people and his consistent record as reasons they felt compelled to return to the NNPP.
Political analysts and party insiders view the return of the Waraka group as a major boost to the NNPP’s influence in Kano South. As the 2027 general elections approach, this development is expected to solidify the party’s grassroots support and enhance its position as a dominant force in Kano State politics.
With this renewed support and growing internal consolidation, the NNPP appears poised to make significant political strides in the coming years, positioning itself as a viable platform for progressive governance in Nigeria.
