In a significant move to bolster their defensive line, Manchester City have completed the £31m signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, the club announced today.
The 24-year-old Algeria international has penned a contract until 2030 and is set to make his debut in the upcoming Club World Cup group stage, where City face Moroccan side Wydad AC on June 18.
Ait-Nouri, who joined Wolves from French club Angers in 2021 for £14.9m following a loan spell, has been a standout performer in the Premier League. Last season, he featured in 41 matches across all competitions, contributing five goals and seven assists as Wolves successfully staved off relegation.
His versatility, pace, and attacking flair from the left flank made him a prime target for Pep Guardiola’s side, who have been active in the transfer market this summer.
The Algerian defender expressed his excitement about the move, stating, “Manchester City are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and the chance to play for them is a dream come true. I’m thrilled to work with Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff and to train alongside such a world-class group of players.”

Ait-Nouri’s departure marks Wolves’ second high-profile exit this transfer window, following Manchester United’s £62.5m agreement for Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha.
Meanwhile, City’s spending spree shows no signs of slowing. The club recently agreed a £46.3m deal for AC Milan’s Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, adding to the £200m invested in January signings.
As City prepare for the expanded Club World Cup and a demanding domestic campaign, Ait-Nouri’s arrival strengthens their squad depth and provides Guardiola with another dynamic option in defense.
