Inter Milan, runners-up in the recent UEFA Champions League, have named Cristian Chivu as their new manager, replacing Simone Inzaghi.

The announcement comes after Inzaghi’s departure following Inter’s 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on May 31. Chivu, a former Inter defender and youth team coach, leaves his role as Parma’s head coach after just 13 games to take the helm at the San Siro.

The 44-year-old Romanian, who signed a contract with Inter until 2027, brings a deep connection to the club. During his seven-year tenure as a player, Chivu won three Serie A titles and forged a strong bond with the Nerazzurri.

Inter’s official statement highlighted his journey, noting that he has “gone through experiences and challenges of enormous importance, events that have shaped him as a man and a professional, binding him inextricably to the black and blue colours.”

Chivu’s brief but impactful stint at Parma marked his first senior coaching role. Appointed in February, he guided the club to Serie A safety, securing three wins in 13 matches. His experience, though limited, demonstrated his ability to stabilize a team under pressure, a skill Inter hopes he will replicate as they navigate a critical juncture in their season.

Chivu’s first major test will be leading Inter at the FIFA Club World Cup, where they face Mexican side Monterrey on June 17.

The appointment signals Inter’s intent to rebuild after their Champions League disappointment, with Chivu’s familiarity with the club’s culture seen as a key asset. Meanwhile, Inzaghi has moved to Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal, closing a chapter that saw Inter reach the Champions League final.

Fans are eager to see how Chivu’s tactical approach and leadership will shape Inter’s campaign in both domestic and international competitions.

His return to Inter marks a homecoming for the former defender, who now faces the challenge of restoring the club’s winning momentum.
