Governor Zulum Donates N100 Million to Support Wounded Soldiers and Families of Fallen Troops in Borno
The Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, in a gesture of deep appreciation and solidarity with Nigeria’s armed forces, has donated a substantial sum of N100 million to support wounded soldiers and the families of military personnel who lost their lives in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the state.
The donation was formally presented on Sunday during an Eid-el-Kabir luncheon held at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri. The event was jointly hosted by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, and attended by top-ranking military officials, including the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, and the Force Commander of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Godwin Mutkut.
Governor Zulum presented a symbolic cheque of N100 million to Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, outlining how the funds would be allocated.
He stated that each wounded soldier engaged in frontline operations would receive a direct financial support of N500,000, while the remaining balance would be distributed among the families of troops who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
In his address at the luncheon, Governor Zulum paid glowing tribute to the courage, endurance, and sacrifice of the Nigerian Armed Forces. He acknowledged the difficult and dangerous conditions under which many of them operate, far from home and family, and expressed the state’s profound gratitude.
“Your dedication to the fight against insurgency, often under extreme and hostile conditions, does not go unnoticed. We are deeply appreciative of your sacrifices, and we recognize the critical role you play in ensuring peace and security not just in Borno State, but across the entire nation,” Zulum said.
The governor also reaffirmed Borno State’s unwavering commitment to supporting the military’s efforts, both during active combat and in the broader task of rebuilding war-affected communities. He emphasized that the state would remain a steadfast ally in the pursuit of long-term peace, recovery, and development.
“Borno State will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Nigerian Army, the Air Force, and all security agencies. Our partnership in combating insurgency and in post-conflict reconstruction is not just strategic—it is essential to our future. Together, we are working toward a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Borno,” he added.
The donation and the governor’s words were well received by the military leadership present, as the event underscored the close civil-military cooperation in Borno and the importance of recognizing the human cost of Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.
