A tragic incident occurred on Sunday at the Mosalasi Roundabout along New Ipaja Road in the Ipaja area of Lagos State, when a black Toyota Tundra vehicle fatally struck a female pedestrian.

According to reports, the vehicle, registered as FST 222 HV, was traveling at high speed when it suddenly veered off the road. It mounted the pedestrian walkway and hit the woman, killing her on the spot.

The force of the impact reportedly propelled the truck further into a nearby livestock trading facility, where it caused significant destruction to the perimeter fence and an adjacent advertising billboard.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the driver, after the fatal collision, attempted to flee the scene. However, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) swiftly intervened and apprehended him.

He was immediately handed over to officers of the Gowon Estate Police Division, who have since taken him into custody for interrogation and further investigation.

The body of the deceased was respectfully recovered and transferred to the Police Force. Her identity had not been publicly disclosed at the time of this report.

Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed profound sorrow over the loss of life. “This is a deeply sorrowful occurrence that underscores the grave consequences of reckless driving,” he said. “We mourn with the family of the deceased and pray earnestly that the Almighty grants them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

Mr. Bakare-Oki further used the occasion to reiterate the importance of vehicle safety and strict adherence to traffic regulations. He urged all motorists to regularly inspect their vehicles—particularly their braking systems—and emphasized that compliance with road safety laws is not merely a legal requirement but a moral obligation aimed at preserving human life.
