Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has declared a firm and renewed crackdown on illegal land encroachment, drug abuse, and insecurity within the state.
His administration has made it clear that threats to peace and stability will no longer be tolerated, signaling a shift towards a more stringent enforcement of laws aimed at protecting the community.
Speaking through the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, during the Eid celebrations in Katsina, Governor Radda extended festive greetings to the people but used the occasion to issue a stern warning that the era of leniency was over.
“The task force on illegal encroachment has been empowered to act decisively,” he declared, highlighting recent unauthorized occupations of cattle routes, grazing reserves, and forest areas. The governor also announced the establishment of a special court dedicated to ensuring swift and punitive actions against offenders involved in these illegal activities.
Addressing the escalating issue of drug abuse, Governor Radda called on parents, religious leaders, and community heads to take active responsibility in combating this growing menace. “We must intensify awareness and education. This menace is destroying lives and threatening the future of our youths,” he urged, emphasizing the necessity of a united front to protect the state’s younger generation from the ravages of substance abuse.
In addition to security concerns, the governor underscored the critical link between environmental responsibility and public health. He urged residents to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings, particularly stressing the importance of proper waste disposal and the upkeep of drainage systems to prevent flooding and disease outbreaks. “The festive season should not distract us from our civic duties. Let us maintain our drainages and dispose of wastes properly,” he advised.
Governor Radda also commended the efforts of security agencies working to maintain law and order, assuring them of the government’s unwavering support. He reiterated the crucial role that citizens play in securing their communities, stating, “Security is everyone’s responsibility. The government’s doors remain open to any citizen with information or advice that can help secure peace.”
Beyond addressing immediate security and social issues, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the state’s long-term development. He pledged continued investments in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and youth empowerment. “Let us celebrate with humility, help our neighbours, and promote harmony in our communities,” he said. “May Allah accept our sacrifices and sustain peace in Katsina State and Nigeria as a whole.”
Earlier during the festivities, the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmuminin Kabir Usman, spoke on the challenges facing the state. He identified envy, hatred, and a lack of God-fearing attitude as major issues undermining societal progress.
The Emir urged the people to embrace compassion by assisting those in need and to live in accordance with the teachings of the Quran to foster a better and more peaceful society.
