Kylian Mbappe delivered a stellar performance, scoring his 50th international goal and providing an assist, as France secured a 2-0 victory over Nations League hosts Germany in the third-place playoff on Sunday.
The French captain’s brilliance proved decisive in a match that showcased both teams’ attacking prowess but ultimately highlighted France’s clinical edge.

Mbappe opened the scoring in the 45th minute, latching onto a precise pass from Real Madrid teammate Aurelien Tchouameni and finishing with composure.
His influence grew in the closing stages when he capitalized on a mistake by Germany’s Robin Koch. With six minutes remaining, Mbappe unselfishly squared the ball to Michael Olise, who slotted it into an empty net to seal the win.
Germany, however, had their chances. A penalty awarded to Karim Adeyemi was overturned by VAR after the German forward was booked for diving following a challenge by France goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
Additionally, a goal by Deniz Undav was disallowed due to a foul by Niclas Fullkrug on Adrien Rabiot in the build-up. Adeyemi tested Maignan with three shots, all saved by the Chelsea target, while Florian Wirtz struck the post in a frustrating night for the hosts.
France could have extended their lead further. Marcus Thuram’s curling effort hit the woodwork, and Mbappe, despite missing several chances, forced a superb save from Germany’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The result marked a disappointing end to Germany’s Nations League campaign, with Julian Nagelsmann’s side now winless in their last three matches, including a semi-final loss to Portugal.
Attention now turns to Munich, where Spain, who edged France 5-4 in a thrilling semi-final, face Portugal in the Nations League final later tonight.
France’s victory, powered by Mbappe’s milestone moment, ensures they end their tournament on a high note.
