A tragic incident occurred in Ilorin, Kwara State, where 43-year-old Akeem, a resident of the Edun area, lost his life after jumping into a domestic well while reportedly under the influence of a hard substance called ‘Colo’ (Colorado). The event took place shortly after Akeem returned from Eid prayers on Friday.
The Kwara State Fire Service received a distress call around 10:29 a.m., reporting that a man had fallen into a well at Ile Alapo, Edun area. Firefighters promptly responded to the scene and successfully recovered Akeem’s lifeless body from the well.
The service’s spokesman, Hassan Adekunle, confirmed the recovery on Saturday and noted that the body was handed over to Inspector Babatunde Amos of the C Division Police Station, Ilorin. The fire service is awaiting formal identification and claim of the body by Akeem’s family.
Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, expressed profound sorrow over the incident. He took the opportunity to warn residents against drug abuse, emphasizing that substance misuse often results in devastating outcomes.
In a related tragedy reported by IREPORT247NEWS, a male student at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, also died after jumping from the balcony of his off-campus residence. The three-story lodge near the university became a scene of distress when the student’s lifeless body was found in a pool of blood following a sudden loud thud on the evening of Thursday, June 5.
Eyewitnesses reported that the student was rushed to a nearby hospital in a critical condition but was pronounced dead upon arrival. It is believed the student had ingested a hallucinogenic substance called “colos” prior to the fatal jump.
Both incidents highlight the grave consequences of substance abuse, leaving families and communities in mourning while raising urgent calls for awareness and preventive measures.
