Benin City, Edo State, is gearing up to host the first phase of the 2025 Ardova Handball Premier League, as announced by the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN).
The premier event, scheduled from July 7 to July 20, 2025, promises to deliver thrilling handball action, with teams converging for one of Nigeria’s most prestigious sporting competitions.
According to a statement by HFN Secretary General, Mrs. Monica Otumala, teams are expected to arrive in Benin City on July 7 for a crucial technical meeting. This meeting will outline the rules governing the league, aligned with the standards of the International Handball Federation (IHF) and the Confederation of African Handball (CAHB).
Matches will commence on July 8, kicking off two weeks of intense competition.
Mrs. Otumala urged participating teams to complete their player registrations and preparations promptly. “This is to inform everyone that the first phase of the Ardova Handball Premier League 2025 will take place from July 7 to 20 in Benin City, Edo State,” she said, emphasizing the importance of readiness for the tournament.
The league is Nigeria’s top-tier handball competition and is now in its eighth season. It features 22 teams—12 male and 10 female—competing in a round-robin format across two phases. The tournament is a showcase of talent, strategy, and athleticism, drawing fans and players from across the country.
Defending champions Tojemarine Handball Club (men) and Safety Babes (women) are set to return. Tojemarine will aim to retain their title for the first time in their history, while Safety Babes are chasing an unprecedented fifth consecutive championship in the women’s category.
