On the early hours of Saturday, the Ogun State Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun, successfully thwarted a robbery attempt in Akinale town, located within the Ewekoro area of Ogun State. The swift intervention came after the corps received an urgent distress call, prompting immediate deployment to the scene.
At approximately 1:20 a.m., a 28-year-old man identified as Opeyemi Olusanya sustained a gunshot wound to the upper part of his left leg during the attempted robbery. He was promptly evacuated to a private hospital in Obada-Oko for urgent medical treatment, ensuring his condition was stabilized.
According to a statement released by Tajudeen Bakare, Deputy Commander of the Amotekun Corps, the response team from the Ewekoro Command quickly mobilized and rushed to the location upon receiving the alert.
Upon arrival, they found the assailants attempting to flee the scene in a wine-colored Kia Cerato with the registration number KRD 840 JS. The vehicle is suspected to be owned by one Ariwoola Wasiu of Ifesowapo Estate, Adunbu, Itori.
The statement detailed the encounter: “Upon sighting the Amotekun operatives, the robbers fled on foot, abandoning their vehicle and escaping into the nearby bush. They managed to abscond with valuables including eight sophisticated mobile phones, two laptops, assorted jewelry, and cash amounting to fifty-four thousand naira (₦54,000).”
The abandoned vehicle was promptly handed over to the Itori Division of the Nigeria Police Force. Both Amotekun and the police have initiated a joint investigation into the robbery and the subsequent escape of the suspects.
Residents of Akinale town have since expressed their appreciation for the quick and effective response of the Amotekun Corps. The community praised the security outfit’s dedication and proactive measures in safeguarding lives and property within the area.
