Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved the release of N6.7 billion as the state’s counterpart contribution to access the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) grant, marking a major step forward in the administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector.

This financial commitment is intended to enable the state to draw down matching grants from UBEC, which will be used for the construction, renovation, and equipping of public primary and secondary schools.

In line with this educational development, the governor has also directed the Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education to undertake a comprehensive assessment of existing infrastructure.

This includes evaluating buildings and furniture in order to identify urgent needs and implement improvements across schools in the state. The administration’s objective is to ensure that the learning environment is conducive and well-resourced to support both teachers and students.

Simultaneously, Governor Oborevwori’s government has approved an extensive slate of road construction and rehabilitation projects, reflecting its strategic focus on infrastructure development and economic growth.

These approvals were made during the latest meeting of the State Executive Council, which was presided over by the governor at Government House in Asaba.

The projects aim to enhance connectivity, particularly in rural and underserved communities, while boosting commerce and improving the overall quality of life for residents.

Speaking on the outcomes of the meeting, the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, highlighted that the road projects span the three senatorial districts of the state. He explained that both new constructions and major rehabilitations were included, with priority given to economic viability, accessibility, and durability.

Aniagwu further emphasized that this dual investment in education and infrastructure is anchored in Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, which stands for Meaningful Development, Opportunity for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security. The agenda reflects the administration’s long-term vision for human capital development and infrastructural renewal.

Also speaking on the matter, Secretary to the State Government, Sir Festus Ahon, reiterated that the road initiatives will significantly accelerate economic activity across communities. He noted that strategic infrastructure investment is a critical pillar in transforming the lives of the people and enhancing the state’s development prospects.

Among the newly approved projects are key roadworks such as the reconstruction of failed sections of the Uzere–Asaba-Ase Road, construction of the Aboh–Akarai concrete road with a 100-meter bridge across the Okiri River in Ndokwa East, the Eku–Osubi Road, and the Okpanam–Ugbolu Road. In addition, several projects awarded during the previous administration have been reviewed upward due to price fluctuations.

These include Phase 1 of the Ejeme-Aniogor–Obidugbo–Ekuku-Agbor Road, Ajuebor and Uwaezueka Streets in Boji-Boji Owa, the Amai–Aragba Road with 40 percent mobilisation, and Phases 1 and 2 of the Idheze Internal Roads.

Further approvals cover the Ovrode–Aradhe Road Phase 1, the Amaka/Ogodogo/Ivu Access Road in Okpolo-Enhwe, internal roads in Atuma-Iga, construction of Arho Road by Heroes of Faith in Ughelli, and the repudiation and re-award of Imohwe Street in Ekiugbo, aimed at connecting Oteri and Iwremaro Town in Phase 1 of that project.

In addition to the infrastructure and education initiatives, the State Executive Council also confirmed the appointment of several traditional rulers, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage and supporting traditional institutions.

Among those appointed are Obi Michael Ogochukwu Osemedua Isichei as the Obi of Ubulu-Okiti, HRM Obi Cletus Nkeakam Ochei as the Obi of Ukwu-Oba Kingdom, and HRM Okorocha Emoghene Osuokpa I as the 39th Okpara-Uku of Orogun Kingdom.

Others include HRM Obi Ikechukwu Chukwuemeka Ugboma as the Obi of Issele-Azagba Kingdom, HRM Patrick Okpomor Agre as the Ovie of Igbide Kingdom, and HRM Michael Avwerotakpo Eyareya (Eyareya II) as the Orovworere of Effurun-Otor Kingdom.

Through these multi-sectoral approvals and initiatives, Governor Oborevwori’s administration continues to demonstrate its resolve to drive sustainable development, improve critical infrastructure, and deliver quality education across Delta State.
