Troops deployed under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully thwarted coordinated terrorist assaults on Buratai and Mallam Fatori in Borno State, neutralizing a significant number of insurgents and seizing a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition.
In a statement issued on Thursday, June 5, 2025, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed the attacks occurred on the same day.
He commended the joint efforts of the ground forces and the operation’s air component, highlighting their effective collaboration in delivering overwhelming firepower to suppress and repel the attackers.
According to Captain Kovangiya, the insurgents launched a multi-pronged offensive targeting military positions in Buratai, located in the Biu Local Government Area, during the early hours of the day.
The militants attempted to breach the defenses by advancing from several directions simultaneously. However, the troops reacted swiftly with concentrated gunfire, while air support engaged the terrorists from above, creating a decisive tactical advantage.
Following the intense engagement, numerous insurgent bodies were discovered on the battlefield. Among the weapons recovered were AK-47 rifles, General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), and various other combat equipment utilized by the attackers.
Captain Kovangiya also noted that Nigerian Army troops pursued militants who attempted to flee the scene, continuing offensive operations aimed at clearing the area and consolidating military control.
He emphasized that the coordinated ground and air operations exemplify the military’s unwavering commitment to denying terrorists any freedom of movement or operational space.
The Nigerian Army further reiterated that security operations in the region are ongoing, with persistent air surveillance and ground maneuvers continuing to target and dismantle remaining insurgent elements in Borno State.
