The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed a deadly attack that resulted in the killing of two police officers and the abduction of two individuals—one of them a foreign national—in the Oreke-Okeigbo community of Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State.
According to an official statement issued on Thursday, June 5, 2025, by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, the incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. A group of unidentified gunmen launched a violent assault on a mining site located within the community.
The statement disclosed that the armed assailants fatally shot two officers of the Nigeria Police Force: Assistant Superintendent of Police Haruna Watsai and Inspector Tukur Ogah. Both officers were attached to the 45 Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Abuja and had been deployed to the mining facility on protective duty. During the attack, the gunmen also seized the service rifles of the slain officers before fleeing the scene.
In addition to the tragic loss of life, the assailants abducted two individuals during the operation. The victims were identified as Mr. Sam Xie Wie, a Chinese expatriate working at the site, and Mr. David Adenaiye, a Nigerian citizen from Kogi State who was also employed at the mining facility at the time of the attack.
Condemning the brutal incident, CP Adekimi Ojo assured the public that the command has initiated a comprehensive investigation and a coordinated rescue operation. He emphasized that tactical and intelligence-based operations have already commenced, with the goal of securing the safe release of the abducted victims and ensuring that those responsible for the heinous crime are swiftly brought to justice.
The statement further noted that the Kwara State Police Command is working closely with other security agencies and key community stakeholders to strengthen security presence in the region and prevent future occurrences of such violent attacks.
While acknowledging the gravity of the situation, the police urged residents of Kwara State to remain calm and law-abiding. The command reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout the state.
