Flamingos Drawn in Tough Group for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, will compete against Canada, France, and debutants Samoa in Group D at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, following the draw held at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Rabat, Morocco, on Wednesday.

The Flamingos face a formidable challenge against Canada and France, both strong contenders, while Samoa makes their first-ever appearance in the tournament. The ninth edition of the competition will see the top two teams from each of the six groups, along with the four best third-placed teams, advance to the Round of 16.

Nigeria, coached by Bankole Olowookere, aims to surpass their quarter-final exit at last year’s tournament in the Dominican Republic. The team previously secured a commendable third-place finish at the 2022 edition in India.

Other group pairings include: Group A (Morocco, Brazil, Italy, Costa Rica), Group B (Korea DPR, Mexico, Cameroon, Netherlands), Group C (United States, Ecuador, China, Norway), Group E (Spain, Colombia, Korea Republic, Cote d’Ivoire), and Group F (Japan, New Zealand, Zambia, Paraguay).The tournament promises intense competition as the Flamingos strive for glory on the global stage.
