The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), in preparation for the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, has mobilized over 350 personnel along with critical operational logistics to strategic locations across the state.
The deployment targets major roads and designated Eid prayer grounds to guarantee the safety and ease of movement for all road users during the celebrations.
The development was disclosed in an official statement released on Wednesday by the Chairman of OYRTMA, Major Adekoya Adesagba (retd.). He noted that the strategic deployment is intended to facilitate a smooth and uninterrupted traffic flow before, during, and after the festive period.
Adekoya emphasized that the agency’s efforts are focused on preventing traffic congestion, reducing road accidents, and enhancing the general safety of both motorists and pedestrians.
He called on all drivers and commuters to exercise patience and cooperate fully with traffic officers on duty, particularly in and around prayer grounds and other high-traffic areas.
“We urge motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid reckless driving, and show consideration for others on the road, especially around areas with large gatherings,” Adekoya stated.
He went further to caution against common traffic violations such as driving against the flow of traffic (one-way driving), running red lights, overloading, excessive speeding, and general disregard for traffic regulations. According to him, many of these infractions are often caused by impatience and a lack of discipline, which can lead to serious and sometimes fatal consequences.
“Impatience is the root cause of many avoidable road tragedies. Reckless overtaking and other violations often stem from a failure to follow simple traffic rules,” he added.
The OYRTMA chairman also expressed his appreciation for the continuous support of Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde. He lauded the governor’s dedication to improving traffic safety and commended his administration for consistently providing the resources and tools required for OYRTMA to carry out its responsibilities effectively.
Reaffirming the agency’s dedication to public safety, Major Adesagba stated that OYRTMA remains fully committed to enforcing traffic laws not just during the festivities, but throughout the year.
“Our resolve to keep Oyo State roads safe remains unwavering. The deployment of personnel and logistics during this festive period reflects our ongoing efforts to ensure that residents and visitors alike can celebrate without worry,” he said.
As the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations approach, OYRTMA encourages all road users to drive responsibly, observe traffic signs and directives, and report any emergencies promptly. The agency believes that with collective effort and public cooperation, the festive period will be marked by joy, safety, and seamless travel across the state.
