The Enugu State Police Command has successfully apprehended a 20-year-old suspect linked to armed robbery activities, recovering a locally manufactured pistol loaded with a live bullet during the arrest.

This development was confirmed in an official statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe.

According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Nwachukwu Chukwuma, was taken into custody at approximately 11:30 p.m. on June 1, 2025. The arrest occurred in the Thinkers Corner area of Enugu, where Chukwuma was observed behaving suspiciously while loitering along a street. This led police operatives from the Thinkers Corner Division, working closely with members of the Neighbourhood Watch, to detain him promptly.

A thorough search conducted on the suspect uncovered a locally made pistol, which was loaded with one live cartridge, raising concerns about potential imminent criminal activity. The collaborative effort between the police and the community-based Neighbourhood Watch underscores the importance of local vigilance in maintaining public safety and combating crime.

Further investigations are currently underway to establish the suspect’s intentions and any links he may have to recent armed robbery incidents in the region. The Enugu State Police Command is determined to delve deeper into the case, with the aim of dismantling any broader criminal networks.

The Commissioner of Police for Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, has issued explicit instructions for a meticulous and thorough inquiry. This investigation is expected to identify and apprehend any accomplices connected to the suspect and recover additional evidence relevant to the ongoing probe.

The police command remains committed to ensuring the safety of residents and bringing all perpetrators of violent crimes to justice through persistent and coordinated law enforcement efforts.
