Osun State Government, in a bid to ease transportation challenges for residents during the festive season, has once again introduced a complimentary train service for its indigenes.

This initiative is designed to facilitate the movement of Osun natives residing in other parts of the Southwest region, enabling them to return home to celebrate the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir festival with their families and loved ones.

According to an official announcement shared through a public flier, the free train service will be available from Thursday, May 5, through Tuesday, May 10, 2025. This special Sallah “homecoming train” will commence its journey from the Iddo Train Terminus in Lagos, departing for Osogbo—the Osun State capital—on Thursday at 10 a.m.

The return leg of the trip, taking passengers from Osogbo back to Lagos, is scheduled for Tuesday next week, departing at the same time—10 a.m.

This initiative underscores the state’s continued commitment to supporting its citizens, particularly during important cultural and religious celebrations. It is part of the government’s broader efforts to alleviate travel stress and financial burdens that residents often face during festive periods.

Notably, this is not a new development. The Osun State Government has consistently offered similar free train services during major religious festivals such as Eid-el-Kabir and Eid-el-Fitr.

Since the launch of this transportation support initiative in 2017, it has become a well-appreciated tradition, especially among Osun residents living in Lagos and other neighboring states.

By sustaining this program, the government reinforces its dedication to the welfare of its people, fostering unity and cultural heritage while ensuring that no indigene is left out of the joy of homecoming celebrations.
