The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to safeguarding the country’s airspace, protecting lives, and securing property across the nation. He made this declaration on Wednesday, 4 June 2025, during the Second Quarter Route March held in Abuja.

In a statement released by the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Ehimen Ejodame, the CAS emphasized that the security and protection of all Nigerians remain the paramount concern of the Nigerian Air Force. “Rest assured, your protection is not merely a responsibility; it is our highest priority,” he affirmed.

Air Marshal Abubakar strongly warned those who pose threats to national security—including insurgents, terrorists, and bandits—that the NAF will leave no stone unturned in its mission to neutralize their activities. “There will be no hiding place for those who endanger the peace and stability of our great nation,” he declared. “We are coming for you. We will find you and take you out.”

The CAS also used the occasion to underscore the critical importance of physical fitness within the armed forces, describing it as an indispensable component of operational readiness. He announced that, as part of a newly instituted policy, all Performance Evaluation Reports for NAF personnel must be accompanied by valid Physical Fitness Test Certificates.

“Physical fitness is no longer optional,” he emphasized. “It is a mandatory requirement for all personnel. No one will be eligible for promotion without meeting both medical and physical fitness standards.”

In support of this directive, Air Marshal Abubakar revealed that he has approved the construction of modern sporting facilities at several NAF bases across the country. Additionally, state-of-the-art gym equipment has been procured for over 22 units and will soon be distributed and installed to enhance physical training capabilities.

Drawing a symbolic connection between the route march and the larger mission of the Nigerian Air Force, the CAS reflected on the broader challenges of achieving national security and enduring peace. He likened the march to the journey of the military’s collective struggle.

“Let today’s route march serve as a reminder of who we are and what we represent,” he said. “We are not merely marching on roads; we are marching with purpose—towards honour, towards resilience, and ultimately, towards victory.”

He added that the path to security and peace is often marked by difficulties, but those who remain steadfast, disciplined, and focused will ultimately succeed. “The journey to our national objectives is not easy, but with perseverance and unity, we will arrive at our destination.”

The quarterly route march, conducted simultaneously across all NAF units, is an integral part of the Force’s operational calendar. It is designed to build endurance, reinforce physical conditioning, and foster a sense of comradeship among personnel.

Beyond its internal objectives, the exercise also serves as a powerful demonstration of readiness and capability—sending a clear message to adversaries and reassuring the public of the NAF’s vigilance and preparedness.

Air Marshal Abubakar expressed sincere appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support to the Armed Forces. He lauded the President’s sustained investment in both operational efficiency and personnel welfare, which he noted has significantly enhanced the effectiveness of the Nigerian Air Force.
