Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman has hailed his decision to represent Nigeria’s Super Eagles as a pivotal moment in his career. The 27-year-old, born in England to Nigerian parents, switched his international allegiance from England to Nigeria in 2022.
Lookman, a former Leicester City player, was part of the England squad that clinched the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2017. However, his move to the Super Eagles proved transformative, culminating in a standout performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where Nigeria finished as runners-up. Lookman contributed three goals and one assist in seven matches during the tournament.
Speaking to ARISE TV, Lookman, who was crowned Africa’s best player in Marrakech last December, said, “Without doubt, it changed my career and my life. This is my home. This is my place. I enjoy it here. I am the son of the soil.”
