The Delta State Athletics Board was officially inaugurated yesterday at the Sports Commission headquarters in Asaba, with a mandate to sustain and elevate the state’s dominance in Nigerian athletics. The ceremony was led by Emuobo Egalase, Acting Director General of the Delta State Sports Commission, representing the Commission’s Chairman, Honourable Onoriode Oborevwori.
In his address, delivered by Egalase, Hon. Oborevwori charged the board to prioritize talent discovery, athlete welfare, and competitive excellence to maintain Delta State’s position as a national athletics powerhouse. “You are assuming this role at a pivotal moment,” Egalase conveyed. “Your task is to build on our solid foundation and ensure Delta athletes remain unrivaled in Nigeria.”
The newly appointed Chairman of the Athletics Board, Sir Itiako Ikpokpo, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and vowed to lead a performance-driven team. “We are committed to delivering impactful programs that will develop our athletes and showcase Delta’s talent on national and international stages,” Ikpokpo said. He promised transparent leadership and collaboration with coaches, athletes, and stakeholders to advance athletics in the state.
Delta State, long recognized as Nigeria’s track and field leader, looks to the new board to strengthen its legacy through strategic planning and renewed dedication.
