Niger Govt, CAN Extend Condolences to Flood Victims in Mokwa

The Government of Niger State has conveyed its deepest sympathies to the people of Mokwa Local Government Area (LGA) following the tragic flooding incident that recently devastated parts of the region.

In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abubakar Usman, the administration extended its heartfelt condolences to the traditional leader of Mokwa, Alhaji Mohammed Aliyu Shaba, the Nda-lele of Mokwa, and to all residents affected by the catastrophe.

Usman expressed profound sorrow on behalf of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago and the entire state government, emphasizing the administration’s strong commitment to both immediate relief and the long-term recovery of the affected communities.

“The disaster in Mokwa is a shared pain across Niger State. We mourn with those who have lost loved ones and stand in solidarity with every individual impacted by this unfortunate event,” Usman stated. He added that Governor Bago has already directed all concerned Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), along with emergency services, to swiftly deploy resources and assistance to the impacted areas.

The SSG also called on residents to remain resilient and optimistic as recovery efforts intensify. He stressed the importance of cooperation between government agencies and local communities to help Mokwa recover and rebuild stronger than before.

In a related development, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State Chapter, also expressed its condolences to the flood-ravaged Mokwa LGA. The Chairman of CAN in the state, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, extended heartfelt sympathies on behalf of the entire Christian community in Niger.

“We offer our sincere condolences to the bereaved families and stand united with all those who have suffered as a result of this disaster,” said Bishop Yohanna, who also serves as the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese. He lauded the proactive efforts of both the federal and state governments in mobilizing emergency response resources and offering critical support to the affected population.

The CAN Chairman urged residents to remain hopeful and active in rebuilding their lives, stressing the power of collective action and faith in overcoming such trying times.
