Inter Milan and manager Simone Inzaghi have mutually agreed to part ways, the club announced Tuesday, just three days after a crushing 5-0 loss to Paris St-Germain in the Champions League final. The 49-year-old, who took the helm at the Serie A club in 2021, is rumored to be a top target for Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.

Inzaghi, who led Inter to six trophies during his four-year tenure, bid an emotional farewell. “The time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a four-year journey, during which I gave everything,” he said. “I want to dedicate one last word to the millions of Nerazzurri fans who cheered me on, cried and suffered in difficult moments, and laughed and celebrated in the six triumphs we experienced together. I will never forget you.”

The decision followed a meeting between Inzaghi and club officials. “The club and Simone Inzaghi are parting ways,” Inter’s statement read. “This is the decision taken by mutual agreement.”

Club president Giuseppe Marotta praised Inzaghi’s contributions, stating, “I would like to thank Simone for the work done, for the passion shown, and also for the sincerity in the discussion that led to the common decision to separate our paths. Only when we have fought together to achieve success day by day, can we have a frank dialogue like the one that happened.”

Inzaghi’s record includes one Serie A title, two Coppa Italias, and three Supercoppa Italia victories. He guided Inter to two Champions League finals, losing 1-0 to Manchester City in 2022-23 and suffering a record 5-0 defeat to PSG last Saturday. The team also narrowly missed the 2024-25 Serie A title, finishing one point behind Napoli.

Inzaghi’s exit comes ahead of Inter’s participation in the newly expanded FIFA Club World Cup, set for June 14 to July 13 in the United States, where Al-Hilal will also compete.
