The Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has announced the tragic death of one of its female pilgrims, Hajiya Jamila Muhammad, during the ongoing 2025 Hajj pilgrimage in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
According to an official statement released on Monday night by the Executive Secretary of the board, Daiyabu Dauda—who also serves as the Amirul Hajj—Jamila Muhammad passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025, at the King Abdul’aziz Hospital in Makkah. Her death was attributed to complications arising from diabetes, as confirmed by medical personnel.
Expressing deep sorrow, Dauda explained that upon learning of her deteriorating health, he promptly instructed the medical team to ensure she received immediate medical attention in accordance with the directives of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang. Despite these efforts, she unfortunately succumbed to the illness.
Following Islamic tradition, funeral prayers for the deceased were held at the Grand Mosque in Makkah. The rites were attended by several pilgrimage officials and members of her family before she was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic burial customs.
“With a heavy heart and in total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing of one of our dear pilgrims, Hajiya Jamila Muhammad,” the statement read. “She died due to diabetic complications, as confirmed by the doctors at King Abdul’aziz Hospital.”
Quoting the Holy Qur’an to offer spiritual comfort, Dauda cited: “And whoever leaves his home as an emigrant to Allah and His Messenger and then death overtakes him, his reward has already become incumbent upon Allah” (Qur’an 4:100).
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Government of Plateau State, the family, friends, and relatives of the deceased. “May Allah forgive her shortcomings and grant her eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaws,” he prayed.
