Bruno Fernandes has turned down a massive offer from Saudi Pro-League club Al-Hilal, opting to remain at Old Trafford, sources confirmed today.

The Portuguese midfielder, one of United’s highest earners, spent days mulling over a deal that would have more than doubled his current salary. After discussions with his family, Fernandes informed Al-Hilal he will not join the Saudi club, a decision that has delighted Manchester United.

Head coach Ruben Amorim expressed confidence last Friday that the 30-year-old would stay, and the club is thrilled with Fernandes’ commitment. While no direct talks took place between United and Al-Hilal—meaning no formal bid was rejected—reports suggest the Saudi side was prepared to pay between £80m and £100m to secure Fernandes for this month’s Club World Cup. It remains unclear if Al-Hilal will now pursue other targets.

Fernandes, who joined United from Sporting for £47m in January 2020, has since made 290 appearances and scored 98 goals, cementing his status as a key figure. His decision comes as the club navigates a challenging period, with former United right-back Gary Neville praising the midfielder’s loyalty.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville said, “The fact that he wants to stay, to go through this and come out the other side, will endear him to Manchester United fans even more. To turn that money down at a point where United are at their lowest ebb and say, ‘No, I want to fight through this,’ says a lot about him as a person, as a character. The club needs people who are going to run through a brick wall for them.”

Fernandes is expected to address the situation later today during a pre-match press conference in Germany ahead of Portugal’s Nations League semi-final on Wednesday.
