The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sharply criticized Governor Alex Otti’s administration, accusing it of functioning as a one-man government lacking transparency, accountability, and institutional checks.
This condemnation was delivered on Sunday during the launch of the Renewed Hope Partners, a grassroots mobilization group formed to back President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.
Speaking at the event held in Umuahia, Dr. Kingsley C. Ononogbu, Chairman of Abia APC, described the Otti-led government as a “one-man show” driven by propaganda and personal control. “Abia State today is nothing but a one-man show anchored on a very well-oiled propaganda machinery,” Ononogbu declared, adding, “Accountability is long gone. Checks and balances are non-existent, while conflict of interest has become the norm.”
He further alleged that Governor Otti has dangerously centralized power, effectively acting as the chief executive, chief accountant, and auditor simultaneously. Ononogbu claimed that the governor manages much of the state’s affairs from his private residence rather than the official Government House, which he alleged is being eyed for conversion into a five-star hotel—raising serious questions about governance priorities.
Highlighting concerns over governance practices, Ononogbu also questioned the transparency of road contract awards in Abia State. He pointed out that these contracts often violate the established Financial and General Purposes Committee (F&GPC) regulations, stating bluntly, “There is no transparency. The process lacks credibility.”
Dr. Ononogbu used the occasion to rally APC supporters and the newly inaugurated Renewed Hope Partners, urging them to intensify grassroots efforts ahead of the 2027 elections. “You are not just a support group. You are allies of the party,” he said, urging vigilance against what he termed the opposition’s “sugar-coated lies” and misinformation campaigns.
In a call for party unity, Ononogbu echoed President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing reconciliation efforts, encouraging estranged members of the APC to rejoin the fold. “In the spirit of the ongoing reconciliations… I urge all members who have stayed away from party activities to come back home,” he appealed.
These remarks underscore the APC’s determination to mount a vigorous challenge against the current Labour Party-led administration in Abia State, as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections.
