Police Probe Death of Young Woman Discovered in Hotel Room

The Bayelsa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the mysterious death of a young woman whose body was discovered in a hotel room in the Igbogene area of Yenagoa, the state capital.

According to reports from local residents, the deceased had checked into the hotel with a young man believed to be an internet fraudster, popularly referred to as a “Yahoo boy.” Eyewitnesses claim the man departed the hotel shortly after their arrival, leaving the woman behind.

Several hours later, hotel staff reportedly became concerned after receiving no response from the room. Upon entering, they discovered the lifeless body of the woman and immediately notified the police at the Igbogene Divisional Headquarters.

Responding swiftly, officers from the division arrived at the scene and evacuated the body to a nearby mortuary. As of the time of this report, the identity of the deceased has not been made public.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for Bayelsa State, DSP Musa Muhammad, stated that an active investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

“We received the report yesterday. Although no arrests have been made so far, the investigation is ongoing,” Muhammad said.

“We are pursuing all available leads to ensure that those responsible are apprehended and brought to justice. An autopsy will also be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.”

The incident has sparked concern among residents and reignited public calls for increased regulation and safety measures in hotels across the state, especially regarding the verification of guests and the installation of adequate surveillance systems.

The Bayelsa State Police Command has urged anyone with useful information related to the case to come forward, assuring the public that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and handled with the seriousness it deserves.
