The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three alleged members of a robbery syndicate notorious for targeting residents at gunpoint and stealing valuable property, particularly vehicles. The arrests took place on Saturday, May 30, 2025, in Agukwu-Nri, located in the Anaocha Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the arrests were made by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, following actionable intelligence extracted from a detained suspect already in custody. He emphasized that the operation is part of the state police command’s ongoing strategy to dismantle criminal networks across Anambra.
According to Ikenga, the arrested suspects—identified as Monday Onoja, Sanusi Muhammed, and Kenneth Nwokpu—are between the ages of 27 and 32.
During the arrest, security operatives also recovered critical evidence believed to have been stolen in previous operations.
These include: One automatic pump-action gun, A white Mercedes-Benz C300 4MATIC with registration number KWC 140, An ash-colored Lexus RX 350 SUV with registration number 669 CY, Two high-end smartphones.
“The arrest of the trio was facilitated through actionable intelligence derived from an ongoing investigation involving a detained suspect,” Ikenga stated. “In addition to the recovery of the firearms and stolen vehicles, the team is intensifying efforts to track down the remaining members of the gang who are currently on the run.”
He further noted that this successful operation reflects the command’s firm stance against organized crime and its commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of residents in Anambra.
“As investigations widen and efforts to apprehend the fleeing gang members intensify, we reiterate that the Anambra State Police Command remains vigilant and proactive in its bid to disrupt and eliminate all criminal operations in the state,” he added.
The police have urged residents to remain cooperative and continue providing useful information to aid the fight against crime.
