Former Minister of Environment, Barrister Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a strategic political move ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His departure from the ruling party is already generating conversations about possible political realignments in Nasarawa State.

Barrister Abdullahi, who served under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, submitted his resignation on Saturday, June 1, 2025. His letter was addressed to the APC ward chairman in Uke, located in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. Copies of the letter were also sent to other key party officials at both the local and state levels. In the letter, he cited “personal reasons” for his decision to part ways with the party.

“I wish you and the party good luck,” Abdullahi stated in his brief but courteous letter, in which he also expressed appreciation for the support and opportunities he received while serving under the APC.

The former minister’s political ally, Mr. Samuel Akala, confirmed the resignation to journalists during a press briefing in Lafia. Akala hinted that Barrister Abdullahi may soon declare his affiliation with another political party, possibly in preparation for a gubernatorial bid in the 2027 elections. “He is considering the next steps in his political journey, and there may be an announcement soon,” Akala said.

Barrister Abdullahi is no stranger to state-level politics in Nasarawa. Before his appointment as Minister of Environment, he served as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) under former Governor Tanko Al-Makura. During his tenure, he was instrumental in several key development initiatives and earned a reputation for his administrative competence.

His resignation is seen as a potential blow to the APC in Nasarawa State, given his wide influence, strong grassroots connections, and established political network. Party insiders have expressed concern about the possible ripple effects of his exit, particularly as the state begins early preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle.

Political observers are watching closely to see which party he will align with next and how his move will reshape the political landscape in Nasarawa in the coming months.
