President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate mobilisation of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant federal agencies to provide swift and comprehensive assistance to victims of the devastating flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.

In a statement released on Saturday, the President described the flooding as a “distressing tragedy” and pledged a coordinated and compassionate relief effort by the federal government. “Upon receiving initial reports, I immediately directed the activation of the National Emergency Response Centre. I have also been briefed by NEMA on the scale of the disaster and the urgent humanitarian needs,” he said.

Authorities have confirmed that at least 115 bodies have been recovered as search-and-rescue operations continue across the submerged communities. Emergency responders remain on the ground, assessing the extent of the damage, locating missing persons, and working to prevent further casualties.

President Tinubu assured that federal relief supplies—including food, medical supplies, and temporary shelters—are already being deployed to the affected areas. “All relevant federal agencies have been mobilised to support the Niger State Government in rescue and relief operations. We will ensure no Nigerian is left behind in this tragedy,” he affirmed.

In addition, the President has directed security agencies to provide support to emergency teams, ensuring that lives are saved, order is maintained, and recovery efforts proceed without hindrance.

Extending his sympathies to those affected, President Tinubu said, “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the affected families and the good people of Niger State. The entire nation shares in your grief.” He called on all Nigerians to keep the victims and their families in their prayers, urging unity, compassion, and national solidarity during this time of mourning.

As the situation continues to unfold, federal and local authorities remain engaged in critical rescue operations, damage assessment, and delivery of humanitarian assistance to restore hope and stability in the disaster-stricken communities.
