A tragic incident occurred on Thursday, May 29, 2025, when an employee of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) lost his life after being electrocuted while attending to a technical fault. The incident took place at the company’s Mabushi office, located in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the deceased, identified as Mustapha Isa, was assigned to resolve a power issue in the area. He reportedly climbed an electricity pole at approximately 5:50 p.m. in a bid to restore power supply when the fatal accident happened.
Isa came into direct contact with a live electrical current, resulting in immediate electrocution. The shock caused him to fall from the pole, during which he sustained a severe head injury.
Eyewitnesses at the scene quickly alerted emergency services. A police patrol team was promptly dispatched to the location to secure the area and initiate preliminary investigations. Efforts were made to save Isa’s life, and he was rushed to the Gwarinpa General Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, Isa was pronounced dead on arrival. His remains have since been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre in Jabi, Abuja, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, authorities have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The management of AEDC has yet to issue an official statement, but internal safety protocols and operational procedures are expected to come under review following the tragic event.
This incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety measures in place for field workers in the power distribution sector, particularly those dealing with high-risk repairs and maintenance.
