The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has officially summoned Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, widely known by his stage name “Speed Darlington,” to appear at its national headquarters in Abuja.
The appearance is scheduled for Friday, May 30th, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. This request comes amid serious concerns arising from a viral Instagram live video in which the singer allegedly admitted to having carnal knowledge of a 15-year-old girl in a hotel.
In a formal letter addressed to Speed Darlington on May 28th, 2025, NAPTIP highlighted the gravity of the allegations. The agency emphasized that, if proven true, the singer’s actions would constitute a violation of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition, Enforcement, and Administration) Act of 2015.
This legislation serves as a crucial framework for combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals, especially minors, from exploitation and abuse.
The letter further requested that Speed Darlington comply with the summons and provide satisfactory answers to the agency’s inquiries.
NAPTIP warned that failure to respond or appear as requested may lead to further legal action or enforcement measures against the singer. The agency reiterated its commitment to thoroughly investigate the matter to uphold the rights and protection of minors and to ensure that justice is served.
