As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu marks the second anniversary of his administration, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, has commended the President for what he described as a “visionary and result-driven leadership” that is steadily repositioning Nigeria for sustainable prosperity.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Barau praised President Tinubu for confronting the country’s pressing challenges head-on while laying a robust foundation for economic revival and national development.
“Over the last 24 months, under his visionary leadership, Nigeria has been strategically repositioned. Despite inheriting numerous challenges, the President has introduced impactful policies and programmes aimed at overcoming them,” the statement read.
Senator Barau particularly highlighted the administration’s achievements in the area of security, which has long been a sore point for successive governments. He noted significant progress in combating terrorism, banditry, and other forms of criminality, especially in the North West and South East regions.
According to him, the Abuja-Kaduna highway, once a hotspot for kidnappings and armed attacks, has seen a drastic decline in violent incidents. “Hundreds of terrorists have been neutralised, and many communities previously under siege have been liberated. The once-prevalent attacks by unknown gunmen in the South East have been significantly reduced. Boko Haram has been largely decimated, although pockets of resistance remain in parts of Borno State,” he stated.
Barau emphasized that these gains reflect the administration’s firm resolve to restore law and order across the federation and to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians.
The Deputy Senate President further hailed President Tinubu’s economic policies, describing them as bold and necessary steps to recalibrate Nigeria’s fiscal architecture. He cited the removal of the fuel subsidy, ongoing tax reforms, and efforts to unify the foreign exchange market as evidence of a government ready to make tough but beneficial decisions.
“Though initial reactions were mixed, we can now see signs that the economy is finding its footing. Investor confidence is returning, and the establishment of development commissions across all six geopolitical zones will ensure equitable distribution of resources and fast-track development projects nationwide,” he added.
On the social development front, Barau lauded the Tinubu administration for prioritizing access to education and health services. He pointed to the establishment of new federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education as milestones that will help close the educational gap, especially in underserved regions.
He also described the Nigerian Education Loan Fund as a “game changer,” noting that over 300,000 students have so far benefitted from the initiative. “This administration has given our youth a fighting chance. For the first time in a long while, we have a student loan program that is both accessible and sustainable,” he said.
Barau reiterated the National Assembly’s commitment to supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda, the cornerstone of Tinubu’s policy direction. According to him, the legislature will continue to provide the necessary legislative backing to ensure the administration’s reforms are fully institutionalized.
“The National Assembly is fully aligned with the President’s vision. We are not just lawmakers but development partners in this journey to revive the fortunes of our country,” he stated.
He further urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and supportive, stressing that the current reforms require time and collective effort to yield lasting dividends.
“I urge all citizens to continue praying for our leaders and to give their full support to President Tinubu as he leads our nation toward peace and socio-economic transformation.”
The Deputy Senate President also welcomed the growing calls by All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders for President Tinubu to seek a second term in office, saying it is a testament to his performance so far.
“President Tinubu’s track record in the past two years has inspired confidence among Nigerians and political stakeholders alike. The push for his second term reflects the broad acceptance of his leadership style and achievements,” he added.
As the administration enters its third year, observers say it remains critical for President Tinubu to consolidate the early gains of his reforms and build stronger institutions that can withstand political transitions.
For many Nigerians, the real test lies ahead: how quickly and effectively these policies can translate into tangible improvements in job creation, inflation control, and poverty reduction.
Still, Barau’s message offers a tone of guarded optimism—a sentiment shared by several APC chieftains and government insiders—as the country continues to navigate the complexities of economic recovery and national cohesion.
