First Lady Honoured with Doctorate at Historic University Convocation

During the first convocation ceremony of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, held on Friday, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was honored with an honorary doctorate degree. This prestigious award was bestowed upon her in recognition of her contributions and dedication to education and public service.

Receiving the award on behalf of Senator Tinubu was Engineer Kayode Olubunmi Ojo, a prominent politician recently appointed as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

His presence underscored the significance of the event and the esteem in which the First Lady is held within academic and political circles.

In addition to Senator Tinubu, two other distinguished individuals were conferred with honorary doctorate degrees (Honoris Causa) during the ceremony.

They included the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo, a traditional ruler of great influence in the region, and Professor Toyin Falola, a renowned scholar of African Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, United States. Their recognition highlighted the university’s commitment to celebrating excellence both locally and internationally.

The convocation ceremony also saw the conferment of various academic certificates to over 12,000 graduating students. Among these graduates, 51 achieved First Class honors, 3,090 were awarded Second Class Upper Division, 6,805 earned Second Class Lower Division, 2,087 received Third Class honors, and 154 were awarded Pass degrees. This broad spectrum of achievements reflected the high academic standards upheld by AFUED.

Following the presentation of the honorary doctorate degree, Engineer Ojo expressed gratitude on behalf of the First Lady to the Management and Members of the Governing Council of Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo.

In his address, he encouraged the newly graduated students to fully utilize the knowledge and skills they acquired during their time at the institution. He also urged them to remain loyal to the university that shaped their academic and personal development.

“As you embark on the next phase of your lives, remember to give back to this great institution that has equipped you for future challenges,” Ojo advised the graduates, emphasizing the importance of gratitude and community responsibility.

Moreover, Engineer Ojo assured the university’s management of renewed and strengthened support from the Presidency under President Tinubu’s administration. He pledged that AFUED would be included in the broader agenda of national development and educational advancement championed by the President.

The university executives presented a framed photo portrait of Her Excellency, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to Engineer Kayode Olubunmi Ojo. He was tasked with delivering the portrait to her in Abuja, further cementing the bond between the First Lady and the academic institution.
