Federal Government Reaffirms Commitment to Nigeria-China Partnership to Accelerate Industrialisation and Economic Transformation
The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership with China, emphasizing the crucial role this collaboration will play in accelerating Nigeria’s industrialisation and broader economic transformation agenda.
This assurance was given by President Bola Tinubu during a meeting held on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he received Joseph Tegbe, the Director-General and Global Liaison of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP).
The President reiterated his administration’s dedication to leveraging this bilateral relationship to fast-track key developmental objectives.
President Tinubu described the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership as “a key pillar of Nigeria’s foreign and economic policy,” highlighting its significance in various critical sectors including trade, infrastructure development, energy, and human capital advancement.
According to him, the partnership is essential not only for attracting foreign investments but also for fostering sustainable economic growth and technological advancement within Nigeria.
During the meeting, Mr. Tegbe provided a comprehensive briefing on the current status of the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Nigeria and China.
This agreement was jointly signed by President Tinubu and President Xi Jinping of China, symbolizing a renewed commitment to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.
Tegbe reported that the partnership has already made “significant progress” through high-level engagements with key Chinese government officials and investors.
He outlined that the collaboration is targeting vital sectors of Nigeria’s economy, such as infrastructure, technology, manufacturing, agriculture, education, healthcare, and mineral development.
Tegbe emphasized that the NCSP team has been actively working to attract targeted investments that will spur growth and create employment opportunities across these areas. “We have been working to attract targeted investments into critical sectors of Nigeria’s economy,” he noted.
President Tinubu commended Tegbe and the NCSP team for their efforts in aligning international cooperation initiatives with Nigeria’s national development goals. He expressed strong confidence in Tegbe’s leadership and the ability of the partnership to deliver tangible outcomes.
The President charged the NCSP to expedite the implementation of key projects under the partnership framework. He stressed the importance of translating diplomatic agreements and foreign investments into real, measurable benefits for the Nigerian people. “Nigeria must begin to deliver real and measurable benefits to its people through these foreign partnerships,” he asserted.
This meeting underscored the Federal Government’s strategic focus on fostering international collaborations that align with Nigeria’s vision for rapid industrial growth and economic diversification, aiming to position the country as a leading player in Africa’s development landscape.
