Oyo State Government Begins Water Connection Project to Ladoke Akintola Airport, Reconnects Agodi Correctional Centre

The Oyo State Government, through the State Water Corporation, has officially commenced the process of supplying potable water to the Ladoke Akintola International Airport in Ibadan.

This move is in line with the administration’s commitment to ensuring critical infrastructure in the state is fully equipped with basic utilities, including clean and safe water.

The Executive Chairman of the State Water Corporation, Mr. Elias Adeojo, disclosed this development during a strategic meeting held with Mr. Jonny Sdozine, Managing Director of Cranebury—the construction company contracted to execute the water connection project—and the Project Manager, Mr. Daniel Sjoud.

According to Mr. Adeojo, this initiative is being undertaken on the directive of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, who, during an unscheduled inspection visit to the airport, emphasized the urgent need to provide a sustainable and reliable water supply to the facility.

Governor Makinde reportedly instructed the Water Corporation to take immediate action to ensure the airport, which serves as a critical gateway to the state, is adequately served with potable water.

Adeojo affirmed the government’s readiness and capacity to deliver the project within a short timeframe, stating that all necessary materials and resources required for its execution have already been made available. “I met with His Excellency during one of his unscheduled visits to the airport recently, where he directed that every step be taken to connect the water pipeline to the airport,” he said.

In a related development, the Executive Chairman also revealed that work has commenced on the reconnection of potable water supply to the Agodi Correctional Centre in Ibadan. The correctional facility, which previously had access to the state’s water supply, suffered a disruption following the vandalism of its main pipeline.

He explained that the primary pipeline, a 100mm UPC water pipe responsible for supplying water to the Oke-Adu area, was damaged, thereby affecting the Correctional Centre and surrounding communities. However, with the recent replacement and repair of the damaged pipeline, reconnection efforts to the Agodi Correctional Centre are now in progress.

Mr. Adeojo further assured that the reconnection exercise is expected to be completed in a few days, after which water supply will resume to the centre and, eventually, to more customers within the area who had also experienced disconnection.

He emphasized the corporation’s broader commitment to restoring water access to all affected areas, particularly long-standing customers of the corporation.

The developments at both the airport and the correctional facility reflect the Oyo State Government’s broader infrastructural improvement strategy under the leadership of Governor Makinde, focusing on enhancing public utilities and improving the quality of life for residents.
