Yobe State Police Command, in a joint operation with local vigilante groups, successfully dismantled a notorious kidnapping den, rescuing two abducted victims unharmed and seizing a dangerous firearm in the process.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Yobe State, Superintendent Dungus Abdulkarim, the breakthrough came following a distress call received on the morning of May 25, 2025.
At approximately 10 a.m., the Gujba Divisional Police Headquarters was alerted by an eyewitness in Buni Yadi, who reported suspicious activities and possible hostage situation at a particular location within the community.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence provided, the police, in collaboration with vigilant community members and local vigilante groups, mobilized a coordinated raid on the suspected hideout. The combined forces successfully located and stormed the criminal den, catching the kidnappers off guard.
During the operation, the kidnappers attempted to flee, leading to an intense gun battle between the police operatives and the fleeing criminals. Despite the exchange of gunfire, the police and vigilantes managed to sustain only minor injuries, while the kidnappers were forced to abandon their abducted victims to escape.
The police recovered a military-grade AK-47 assault rifle at the scene, accompanied by two magazines fully loaded with 25 rounds of ammunition, highlighting the dangerous level of armament possessed by the criminals.
Importantly, the two victims who had been held captive were found safe and unhurt. They were immediately taken to a nearby hospital where they received necessary medical evaluation and care, ensuring their swift recovery from the traumatic ordeal.
SP Dungus Abdulkarim emphasized that the police are intensifying efforts to track down and apprehend the remaining suspects who managed to escape during the raid. The command has assured the public that all necessary measures will be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice through a thorough legal process.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police for Yobe State, CP Emmanuel Ado, praised the bravery and dedication of the police personnel involved in the operation.
He also expressed his firm commitment to strengthening collaboration with local communities and vigilante groups to maintain peace, security, and the safety of lives and property across the state.
CP Ado reaffirmed that the police command will continue to act decisively against all forms of criminality, particularly kidnapping, which remains a significant threat to the region.
This operation marks a significant victory in the ongoing fight against kidnapping and criminal activities in Yobe State, underscoring the critical role of intelligence sharing and community cooperation in enhancing security.
