The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the successful take-off and long-term development of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Teaching Hospital.
He made this known on Sunday during a courtesy visit by members of the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Health Institutions, who were received at the Government House in Alagbaka, Akure.
Addressing the delegation led by the committee chairman, Hon. Patrick Umoh, Governor Aiyedatiwa disclosed that the state government had already ceded one of its specialist hospitals to serve as a temporary operational base for the proposed teaching hospital.
He further revealed that land has also been allocated for the construction of the hospital’s permanent site, underscoring the state’s readiness to partner with the federal government to enhance healthcare delivery in the region.
“Our administration is committed to ensuring that this important federal institution takes off without delay,” Governor Aiyedatiwa stated. “Beyond providing temporary facilities, we have earmarked land for the permanent site, and we will continue to offer every necessary support — infrastructural, administrative, and logistic — to guarantee the hospital’s full establishment.”
He expressed optimism that the House committee’s visit would help address critical gaps in federal health institutions operating within the state, providing the lawmakers with firsthand insights into the current conditions and future needs of the facilities.
“This oversight visit will go a long way in shaping policy decisions and resource allocation at both the federal and state levels. Ultimately, it will benefit health professionals and the good people of Ondo State,” the governor noted.
In his remarks, Hon. Patrick Umoh said the visit was part of the committee’s national oversight responsibilities aimed at evaluating the state of federal health institutions across the country. He acknowledged the governor’s proactive measures in facilitating the take-off of the teaching hospital and urged him to sustain the momentum.
Hon. Umoh emphasised that the FUTA Teaching Hospital is a strategic project aligned with the committee’s broader legislative agenda to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure and ensure equitable access to quality medical services nationwide.
The visit concluded with a renewed commitment from both the state government and the House committee to collaborate in fast-tracking the establishment of the teaching hospital, which is expected to serve as a major medical training and healthcare hub in the South-West region.
