President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of 22 individuals to leadership roles across various federal agencies and commissions, in a move aimed at revitalizing public institutions and enhancing service delivery in critical sectors.
Announced on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the appointments span areas including governance, sports, agriculture, education, and social development.
Key Appointments Across Strategic Institutions:
Policy and Development: Former Senate President Ken Nnamani has been named Chairman of the Nigerian Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), while former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim will chair the National Merit Awards Committee. Former Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shema has been appointed Chairman of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
Sports and Labour: Former Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu is now Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Sport. Veteran labour leader Isa Aremu has been reappointed as Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies.
Agriculture and Rural Development: Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani was appointed Managing Director of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC), with Abubakar Umar Jarengol (Operations/Technical) and Babaranti Ayandayo Rasheed (Finance/Administration) as Executive Directors. Senator Kabir Abdullahi Barkiya has been named Chairman of the Nigerian Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), and Abubakar Adamu is now Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria.
Women and Elderly Affairs: Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir takes over as Director-General of the National Centre for Women Development, while Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe will serve as Director-General of the National Senior Citizens Centre.
Education and Leadership: Dr. Segun Aina becomes Director-General of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria. Dr. Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu has been appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, and Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura will head the Centre for Citizenship and Leadership Training as its new Director-General.
Population and Enterprise Development: Senator Jalo Zarami and Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu have been appointed as Federal Commissioners of the National Population Commission. Hamza Ibrahim Baba was named National Programme Manager of the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP).
Energy and International Development: Professor Almustapha Alhaji Aliyu is the new Managing Director of NNPC Gas Marketing Limited. Mohammed Lawal Ibrahim and Abdullahi Mohammed have been appointed to executive roles at the Nigeria–São Tomé and PrÃncipe Joint Development Authority.
According to the statement, these appointments reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to rebuilding the capacity of public institutions by entrusting them to experienced professionals, technocrats, and administrators.
