Mr. Ehiogie West-Idahosa, legal counsel to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, confirmed yesterday that they have officially received the details of a lawsuit filed against the senator by the Federal Government. He assured that her legal team is fully prepared to present credible evidence in court during the trial.

In a statement, West-Idahosa disclosed that the suit was received around 2:30 pm on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court premises in Abuja.

The Federal Government filed the case, marked CR/297/25, before the FCT High Court on May 16. The suit accuses Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of making imputations “knowing or having reason to believe that such imputation will harm the reputation of a person.”

This legal action followed the senator’s suspension from the Senate, which came after an altercation with Senator Akpabio over a change in seating arrangements within the Red Chamber.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and subsequently petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), as well as the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister for Justice, calling for an investigation into those she described as her alleged traducers.

According to the statement, “At about 2:30 pm on Friday, May 23, 2025, within the premises of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, we received the information filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), outlining three counts related to allegations against our client.”
